The Long Island Progressive Coalition (LIPC) fights for structural change at the local, state, and national levels to attain racial justice, build community wealth, and realize a just transition to a 100% renewable energy future. We mobilize Long Islanders through political education, grassroots organizing, leadership development, and the creation of cooperative economic institutions to redistribute wealth and power.
Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets over the last few months to demand a more just Long Island, one of the most segregated places in the United States. These mass demonstrations must continue until things change, but we can make the protests more impactful by coupling them with strategic action.
That is why we are forming the LIPC Action Team.
Record wealth inequality. Underfunded schools. Police brutality, and out of control law enforcement budgets. Climate catastrophe. It can be a little overwhelming thinking about these issues in isolation, but when we come together to organize and build people power, the problems we face feel less daunting.
In the words of Maya Angelou: “When you do nothing you feel overwhelmed and powerless. But when you get involved you feel the sense of hope and accomplishment that comes from knowing you are working to make things better.”
So are you ready to fight for a better Long Island?
