Long Island Education Reform

The Long Island Progressive Coalition (LIPC) is a grassroots community-based organization founded in 1979, dedicated to promoting sustainable development, revitalizing local communities, enhancing human dignity, creating effective democracy, and achieving economic, social & racial justice.

Education

New York Education ReformLIPC is organizing the local campaign of the statewide Alliance For Quality Education. AQE believes that every public school should provide a quality education to all its students by having smaller classes, qualified teachers, safe clean and technologically up to date classrooms, and early childhood education programs.

Founded in 2000, the Alliance for Quality Education (AQE) has quickly become New York State’s lead community-based organization in the fight for high quality public education. A statewide non-profit, AQE unites a coalition of over 230 organizations of parents, children's advocates, schools, teachers, clergy, labor unions, business leaders and others.

AQE believes it will take fair funding and smarter spending to support better schools and give every child in New York State a quality education from pre-K to high school graduation. Truly statewide, AQE has active community-based education coalitions in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, the Capital District (Albany), the Hudson Valley, Yonkers, New York City and Long Island.

As the Long Island branch of AQE, the Long Island Progressive Coalition has worked with parents and leaders from all across Long Island to take action on the statewide campaign. We have organized to build a committee of parents and leaders from the Brentwood, Central Islip and Wyandanch school districts to fight for quality education that will help to close the huge achievement and spending gaps that exist on Long Island.
