The Long Island Progressive Coalition (LIPC) is a grassroots community-based organization founded in 1979, dedicated to promoting sustainable development, revitalizing local communities, enhancing human dignity, creating effective democracy, and achieving economic, social & racial justice.
Sustainable Development
We see representative government as a way for a democratic community to control its own destiny. That means prioritizing human needs over corporate needs, at home and abroad. In particular, we fight for decent jobs at decent pay and an equitable system of progressive taxation, defend the "social safety net," including preservation and enhancement of Social Security and Medicare, with health care as a right not a privilege, and advocate "fair trade" not "free trade."
