The Long Island Progressive Coalition (LIPC) is a grassroots community-based organization founded in 1979, dedicated to promoting sustainable development, revitalizing local communities, enhancing human dignity, creating effective democracy, and achieving economic, social & racial justice.
The Issues the LIPC Works On...
Affordable Housing
The LIPC has a campaign called YIMBY—Yes In My Backyard. We seek to build a movement to support affordable housing across Long Island. More
Education
LIPC is organizing the local campaign of the statewide Alliance For Quality Education. We believe that every public school should provide a quality education to all its students. More
Government Efficiency
LIPC’s Government Efficiency Project’s goal is to reduce the enormous tax burden by eliminating or consolidating wasteful and dysfunctional Special Taxing Districts. More
Energy
LIPC works to lower Long Island’s carbon footprint and pollution by teaching people how to lower their energy usage and by lobbying for a sustainable energy system. More
Sustainable Development
We see representative government as a way for a democratic community to control its own destiny. That means prioritizing human needs over corporate needs, at home and abroad. More
Clean Elections
Clean Election Reform legislation establishes a system under which candidates in New York who agree to limit campaign spending and contributions and who collect a set amount of small contributions from voters, will receive a fixed and equal amount of public funding for their political campaigns. More
In addition to these issues, LIPC works on statewide and national issues through our affiliates Citizen Action of New York and USACTION. We work towards health care for all and publicly financed elections.
