Election Victory Happy Hour @ Bar Louie
Nov 26 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

We Won! We Won! We Won! We Won! We Won! We Won!

That’s right we WON six times on Long Island in the New York State Senate and now have a historic majority! Finally New York State can become the progressive leader we need it to be.New York voters spoke loud and clear as they shifted the power in the New York State senate. Voters want real change. They want ethics and voting reform, public financing of elections, school aid that does not leave any child behind, and they want New York to make a bold stand and truly address climate change. For decades the NYS Republican Senate have blocked reforms that would improve people’s lives. We have new leadership in the Senate that must stand up and fight for progressive changes throughout the state. We look forward to working with the new leadership and clear a path for New York to lead.

While there is still lots of work done, we need to remember to take a time to celebrate our victories and appreciate the work we’ve done. So let’s do that. Let’s Celebrate!

We hope to see you for some cocktails and tales from the campaign trail.

LIPC will receive 20% of every check all day long if you give your server the coupon posted on the event wall.

Post-Election Poetry @ Turn of the Corkscrew, Books & Wine
Nov 28 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

The 2018 midterm elections are over and we want to recognize the work people put in these past months. We also want to recognize that elections are just one facet of politics and that the work of organizing and building people power rages on.

This Post-Election Poetry event will provide an opportunity for activists, writers, community members and anyone else interested in progressive issues to share their passion and participation in issues related to climate, racial, social, and economic justice through the use of poetry, spoken word, or personal essay. This event is intended to contemplate the meaning of democracy, reflect on the political landscape, and engage participants in action steps.

We’ll have a series of speakers (see submission details below), a dialogue about the political landscape with all participants, and a call to action for ongoing organizing.

Join us for this family-friendly event for an evening of appreciation, creativity, planning, and action. Listen, share, and connect with community members.

Calls for Submission, What We are Looking For:

Submissions of poetry, spoken word, or brief personal essay to be read aloud at the venue. Themes or topics to consider include (but are not limited to): identity, environment, climate change, community organizing, intersectionality, healing, motivation, inspiration, political activism, social movements, democracy, justice, solidarity, grief, acceptance, progress, action, elections, and self-care.

Dec 20 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

LIPC’s climate committee serves as a hub for climate justice organizing on Long Island. The committee meets monthly to strategize around campaigns, plan actions, and share information.

This year members have made calls, knocked doors, submitted letters, and attended rallies, meetings, & workshops for climate organizing efforts on Long Island. To thank everyone for their efforts, to celebrate the end of the year, and to invite others to join our efforts in 2019, our December climate committee meeting will be this holiday party!
